Six deaths on Victorian roads in two days

(AAP) - Six people have died in a horror two days on Victorian roads, including a police recruit only a month into his training.
Speaking before a sixth person died on Saturday afternoon, Road Policing Superintendent Neville Taylor said to lose so many people in such a short period of time was "a reminder of just how quickly road trauma can touch any one of us".
"Five deaths in 24 hours is absolutely devastating to the community," Supt Taylor told reporters.
"It is tragedy, it is inexplicable."
He said police were investigating the causes of the accidents.
"Early investigations lead us into looking at factors like speed, some distraction."
The horror run began with the deaths of three young people on Gippsland roads in two separate accidents over a nine-hour period on Friday morning.
The 19-year-old male driver and his 21-year-old female passenger died when their car speared into a power pole, snapping it in half, at Drouin, southeast of Melbourne, about 1am (AEDT) on Friday.
The third Gippsland death occurred about 9.30am near Leongatha when a 25-year-old woman died after her car left the road, collided with a concrete power pole and burst into flames.
Police on Saturday said the victim of a fourth accident on Friday, near Ballarat, was police recruit Jason Bond.
The 21-year-old, from Ararat in Victoria's west, was in only his fourth week of training at the Victoria Police Academy in suburban Glen Waverley.
He died as a result of a two-car collision on the Western Highway at Windermere, just after 6pm on Friday.
Two motorcyclists died on Saturday, taking the state's road toll to 44 compared to 54 at the same time last year.
A 66-year-old Seymour man died when his motorcycle left the road and hit a tree near Wallan, north of Melbourne, about 9.30am on Saturday.
A man died on Saturday afternoon when the quad bike he was on collided with a tree at Darley near Bacchus Marsh, west of Melbourne.
Police on patrol discovered the man, believed to have been aged in his late 30s, about 4.15pm on Camerons Road.
