SUZUKI RECALLS 23,257 CARRY MINIBUSES FOR DEFECT IN IGNITION KEY
Jakarta,Aug 20 (ANTARA) - PT Indomobil Niaga International, Suzuki sole agent and brand holder, has recalled 23,257 units of Suzuki Carry/Futura cars produced from January 1, 2007 to February 13, 2008, for a replacement of their ignition key component.
"The replacement is the result of an investigation by Suzuki which found that the position of the ignition key after startering the engine cannot return to its original position," marketing director of PT Indomobil Niaga International Endro Nugroho said in Jakarta on Wednesday.
This condition caused the starter to operate continuously, and the worst thing that can happen is the melting of the starter motor battery cable which may triggers a fire. To prevent such disaster, he said, the company has recalled 23,257 1.5 thousand cc Carry/Futura minibuses already sold, for component replacement.
In this context, PT Indomobil Niaga International will team up with its main dealer in sending a notification and invitation to the owners of the vehicles produced in the period from January 1, 2007 to February 13, 2008, to have their vehicles checked at the nearest official Suzuki repair centers throughout the country.
The model and frame serial number of Suzuki Carry and Future cars which had been recalled are pickup cars (2007) with frame number MHYESL4157J100010, and pickups of 2008 with frame number MHYESL4158J116013, in addition to the minibuses with frame number MHYESL4157J500013 and MHYESL4157J503549 produced in 2007, and minibuses of 2008 with frame numbers MHYESL4158J503550 and MHYESL4158J504128.
Up till today, he added, five of these cars had been detected in need of repair of their lock set assy. Four of them were found in Sumatra (two units), in Jakarta and South Sulawesi, one unit each.
