TAIWANESE COMPANY TO INVEST IN EAGLEWOOD CULTIVATION IN RI
Taipei, Aug 20 (ANTARA) - A Taiwanese agricultural company, Sunrise Agarwood Biotech Taiwan Corporation, is planning to invest US$3 million in the agricultural sector in Indonesia, especially in eaglewood cultivation.
"They have submitted their business plan to the Indonesian Trade and Economy Office (KDEI) in Taipei and in the near future they will visit Indonesia," KDEI chief Suhartono said here Wednesday.
In the business plan, he said, the company would need two million hectares of land, including marginal land for the plantation. "They have the technology to utilize marginal land."The investment project would be implemented in the short, medium and long terms and was expected to absorb 100,000 workers.
"We have prepared our officers to guide them (in the visit to Indonesia) and we hope that they can visit several regions," he said.
The delegation, he added, was also expected to share information on applicable technology with officials of Indonesia's Research and Technology Ministry.
In addition to Sunrise Agarwood, three Taiwanese companies are also interested in investing in Indonesia but in the fisheries sector.
Fisheries have become one attractive target for Taiwanese investment in Indonesia, in addition to energy and agriculture.
"We hope that they can invest in fish processing or canned fish production and establish their factories in Indonesia," he said.
