Sugar prices won’t go up, says Thai minister

BANGKOK, March 2 (TNA) - The Thai Ministry of Industry confirmed on Wednesday (March 2) that Thailand has enough sugar supply for domestic consumption and sugar prices on the domestic market will not go up until, at least, the end of this year.

When reassuring that the domestic sugar prices will remain intact, Thai Industry Minister Chaiwuti Bannawat noted that the sugar prices would be unchanged pending an official result of a study on the overall restructuring of Thailand's cane and sugar industry.

According to the Thai industry minister, Thailand's sugar stocks remained at 1.6 million sacks as of Tuesday night. Domestic sugar supply should, therefore, be enough for local consumption, as sugar quota this year has been raised by 25 per cent, or six million sacks, to 28 million sacks. (TNA)
