Thailand mulls new national tourism plan 2012-2016

BANGKOK, March 2 (TNA) - Thai Prime Minister Abhisit Vejjajiva announced on Wednesday (March 2) that his government will launch a new national tourism development plan for 2012-2016, emphasizing on promoting Thailand a courtesy-conscious society with a warm care of international visitors.

Abhisit said when addressing a forum on "the Future of the Thai Tourism” held in Bangkok that Thailand should now focus on promoting its qualitative domestic tourism to attract more international visitors with higher income, noting that international tourists' spending in the Kingdom is now considered small--compared with a large number of international tourist arrivals in the country.

According to the Thai premier, the Thai tourism industry has been improving, with an annual growth of some 7 per cent on average, and is expected to expand double over the next decade. (TNA)
