Ex-Thai PM mother's dies at 99

BANGKOK, March 2 (TNA) - Former Thai Democrat prime minister Chuang Leekpai mother, “Thuan Leekpai”, passed away peacefully Wednesday morning at the age of 99.
Chuan, who is now the chair of Thailand's ruling Democrat Party’s advisors' panel, later confirmed the death of his mother at his sister house in Bangkok due to senility, saying that he is now working with other members of his family for his mother's funeral at a local temple in Thailand's southern Trang Province, his hometown.
Born in 1912, “Thuan Leekpai” came to be a public spotlight after Chuan became Thailand’s 20th Prime Minister. In 1993, she was titled “the mother of the year”, and she had been known to maintain her simple ways of life, selling food at a local fresh market in Trang despite her son’s established political status.
