Iran FM: West's hegemonic policies, factor for bloodsheds in region

Geneva, March 1, IRNA – Iran's foreign minister here Monday considered some western powers’ hegemonic policies as the main factor leading to suffers and bloodshed of ongoing regional crises.
Ali Akbar Salehi in his address to the 16th Geneva UN Human Rights Council referred to the highly alarming ongoing situation in the Middle East region, emphasizing that "the people in this region are fed up with corruption and foreign hegemony and are seriously pursuing their campaign for freedom, independence, liberation from foreign hegemony, internal despotism, and dictatorships.”
He meanwhile emphasized that the nations’ legitimate demands should be respected, emphasizing, “The regional nations’ legitimate demands must be respected and the regional governments are responsible for heeding those demands and the natural rights of the nations.”
Salehi expressed regret that some governments resort to military power against their own innocent citizens, arguing, “Many lives have been lost and many more people have got injured.”
He added, “Some western powers must seriously end creating obstacles in the way of these nations for deciding their own fates.”
Salehi emphasized, “The history bears witness that the hegemonic policies of some western countries have been the main factor leading to the sufferings and the bloodshed in this region.”
Salehi added, “That s quite similar to what happened during the course of the Islamic Revolution of Iran.” He then referred to the killings of thousands of innocent people during the former Shah’s regime in Iran, arguing, “After that the terrorist groups that have taken refuge in western countries and have never been punished continued those crimes, creating very horrendous scenes.”
He said that over 7,000 innocent Iranian citizens lost their lives in Tehran streets in the short span of a few months, including the martyred president Raja’ie, the martyred prime minister Ayatollah Beheshti, and dozens of martyred MPs, by these terrorist groups.”

The foreign minister expressed regret that these criminals are supported by western counties that claim to be major standard bearers of the human right and the campaign against international terrorism.
He emphasized, “These countries had better not repeat their past mistakes of politicizing the matter and aiming at taking economic advantage of the matter.”
Salehi added, “The Islamic Republic of Iran highly respects the human rights, because we believe in Islam and out religion has fundamental teachings on respect for the human rights, and in addition the Iranian culture and civilization further stress the need for doing so.”/end
