Libyan authorities jamming Russia Al Youm broadcasts
MOSCOW, March 1 (Itar-Tass) -- The Libyan authorities are jamming
broadcasts of the Russian Arabic-language news channel Russia Al Youm
(Russia Today) transmitted via the Nilesat (AB4) satellite, the channel's press service said on Monday.
The press service cited the provider of satellite television services, RRsat -Global Communications Network, as saying it had registered attempts to jam the Russia Al Youm's signal. "According to the company, problems with the Russian channel's signal are stemming from the Libyan authorities, who seek to strip its citizens of access to unbiased and independent information about the development in the country and in the Middle East," the press service said.
Russia Al Youm is a Russian TV news channel broadcasting in Arabic and headquartered in Moscow. It started broadcasting in May, 2007.
