Kamchatka lawmakers to vote on new governor on March 4

PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY, March 1 (Itar-Tass) -- The Legislative
Assembly of Russia's Far Eastern Kamchatka territory will vote on Vladimir Ilyukhin, the presidential nominee for the post of the territory's governor, at an extraordinary session on March 4, the press service of the Kamchatka's legislature told Itar-Tass on Tuesday.
Lyukhin was appointed acting governor on February 25, 2010, after
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev dismissed his predecessor, Alexei
Kuzmitsky.
Alexei Kuzmitsky, 43, has been the Kamchatka territory's governor
since July 2007. He is member of the supreme council of the ruling United Russia party. He did not elaborate on the reasons for his early
resignation.
Vladimir Ilyukhin, who will turn 50 on June 25, has been chief federal inspector in the Kamchatka territory since 2009.
According to local media, Ilyukhin was born in the village of
Novonikolayevka in the Krasnoyarsk region. He graduated from the
Khabarovsk Institute of National Economy and the Far Eastern Academy of State Service. In the Soviet period, we held posts with Komsomol (Young Communists League) organizations, then engaged in business activities. In 2002, he was appointed chief federal inspector in the Koryak autonomous area and chief federal inspector in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) in 2008.
The local branch of the United Russia nationwide party said its
faction in the Kamchatka parliament would vote in favour of Ilyukhin's
candidature. The United Russia holds the majority of seats in the
Kamchatka parliament, or 40 out of 49.
