Employment slightly increases in Thailand last year

BANGKOK, Feb 28 (TNA) - Thailand's Office of the National Economic and Social Development Board (NESDB) reported on Monday (Feb 28) that employment slightly increased in Thailand last year, but the number of narcotic cases peaked in eight years, the problem of pregnancy among teenage women escalated and the IQ of Thai children dropped.
NESDBR Secretary-General Akom Termpitthayapaisit said that in the fourth quarter of last year Thailand's employment and the living conditions of people improved in general, as 38.02 million local people were employed, a 0.8 per cent year-on-year increase, although low-end jobs still depended on migrant workers.
As for Thailand's social problems, there were 266,010 narcotic cases last year, an 11.6 per cent year-on-year rise and the number was the highest in eight years. Abuse cases also rose with children and women becoming victims of all forms of abuses; while the IQ of Thai children dropped, as the average IQ of children aged 6-12 stood at 91 while the medium level of intelligence stands between 90-110. The rate of pregnancy among teenage women rose by 18.6% and becomes an urgent problem that needs to be addressed closely. (TNA)
