PIRATES SEIZE MISC'S PALM OIL TANKER
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 20 (Bernama) -- MISC Bhd's tanker, MT Bunga Melati Dua has been hijacked by unknown pirates in the Gulf of Aden, located between Somalia and Yemen.
In a statement Wednesday, the company said the tanker, with 39 crew, of which 29 are Malaysians and 10 Filipinos, was fully laden with palm oil and heading towards Rotterdam from Dumai, Sumatera at the time of theincident.
"MISC regrets to inform that its chemical/palm oil tanker, MT BungaMelati Dua has been hijacked by unknown pirates, at 10.09 pm on Aug 19.
"The incident occurred in the Gulf of Aden, between Somalia and Yemen,"said the leading international shipping line company in Malaysia.
The company said no further details of the incident are available at thispoint in time.
"All authorities have been notified accordingly and we are working closelyto render the necessary assistance and support needed," it added.
