Gang destroyed in Chechnya masterminds terrorist acts

MOSCOW (Itar-Tass) - A gang destroyed in Chechnya was
masterminding the terrorist acts, a source in the National Anti-Terrorist
Committee said on Sunday.
"During a search operation within the scope of measures to fight the
gangs the Federal Security Service department in Chechnya obtained the
information about a terrorist group, which was masterminding the
explosions of several homemade explosive devices in Grozny that were to be
detonated by the calls from mobile phones," the source told Itar-Tass.
"After the explosive devices had been detected to be activated in a
Grozny district, the explosions of the bombs that made no major damages
had been fixed, the operatives and detectives launched an intensive search
for the bandits. The control was tightened as well in order to detect the
location of homemade explosive devices as soon as possible and to avert
their explosions," the source said.
The bombs were unarmed near an office of the Moscow Industrial Bank
and the Mirazh cafe. A shelled explosive device made of a grenade and
equipped with an electric detonator and a mobile phone to blast the bomb
with such additional striking pieces as lead plates and submachine gun
bullets was found at the cafe.
"Meanwhile, two more explosive devices, which were to be detonated by
the mobile calls, were found to be prepared for the blasts. After the
bombs had been detected to be activated, they were blocked and their
probable location was detected and fenced off. A bomb was planted near the
Grozny-City trading and entertainment center, another bomb was planted
under the bottom of a car, which belonged to a policeman," the source said.
"The detectives found out that members from the gang, which was
rampaging near Yandi in the Achkhoi-Martan Region, were involved in
masterminding the terrorist acts. They were found and destroyed in an
intensive search operation on February 25. A house, where members of the
foresaid terrorist group had entrenched, was found. Three gunmen were
destroyed in the shootout with Chechen special police forces," the source
said.
"The security services and the police are taking all the measures to
specify and make up protocols of the illegal activities of the destroyed
terrorist group. The destruction of the bandits in the special operations
in Chechnya that were masterminding several terrorist acts through the
bomb explosions set an example of coordinated and professional actions of
the security services and law enforcement agencies in Chechnya," the
source underlined.
