FORMER INDIAN PRESIDENT TO VISIT PENANG

PENANG (Malaysia), Aug 20 (Bernama) -- Former Indian president and 'Father of Indian Nuclear Missile Programme' Dr Avul Pakir Jainulabdeen Abdul Kalam will be on a three-day visit to northern state of Penang, beginning Aug 30.

The man who was affectionately called the 'People's President' because of his unique and well-loved style of leadership, ended his term of service lastmonth.

Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng said on the first day of his visit, Abdul Kalam would give a lecture in conjunction with Universiti Sains Malaysia'sconvocation ceremony.

On the second day, Abdul Kalam - an aeronautical engineer and scientist byprofession - will visit Georgetown's renowned heritage sites.

The last day of his stay in Penang will see India's 'Missile Man' visiting the Penang Islamic Museum and be feted by the state governor Dr AbdulRahman Abbas.

Before Abdul Kalam's departure at the Penang International Airport, Lim isexpected to give a press conference.

Abdul Kalam's visit is sponsored by Khazanah Nasional.
