Investigation Committee confirms injury of traffic police in Nalchik.
NALCHIK, February 26 (Itar-Tass) -- The local office of the
Investigation Committee in Kabardino-Balkaria has confirmed a police
officer was injured, when a traffic police post was attacked near Nalchik.
"At the moment there is information about attacks against two traffic
police posts," a spokesman for the Investigation Committee office told
Itar-Tass. "In the fire attack on the post in the village Shalushka at the
entrance to Nalchik one officer was injured."
"In addition there is information about a fire attack on the building
of the republican FSB," the official said. "According to preliminary
information, there were no injuries. As a result of the shooting damage
was caused to a car parked nearby."
Over the fire attacks against the two traffic police posts at the
entrance to Nalchik Federal and against the office of the federal security
service FSB criminal cases have been opened under articles 317 and 222 of
the Criminal Code (assault on law enforcers and illegal carrying of arms),
the Investigation Department said.
As Itar-Tass has been told at the republican prosecutor's office, on
the premises of the FSB's sanatorium Leningrad there occurred an explosion
on Friday evening, but no one was hurt.
"A probe into the type and yield of the explosive device is in
progress," the republican prosecutor's office said.
.Georgia no threat to Sochi Olympics - Saakashvili.
TBILISI, February 26 (Itar-Tass) -- Georgia does not pose any
"physical" threat to the Winter Olympics in Sochi in 2014, President
Mikhail Saakashvili said in an interview on a Russian-language television
channel in Tbilisi on Friday. As he touched upon Russian President Dmitry
Medvedev's statement about problems from the Georgian side for the
Olympics in Sochi, Saakashvili said: "Georgia in physical terms is of zero
threat to the Olympics in Sochi. We're not going to pose any physical
threats."
On February 18, at a meeting with members of Russia's Security Council
in Krasnaya Polyana, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said that any
provocations against the 2014 Olympics in Sochi, in particular, those from
Georgia, should be duly prevented, and the level of security during the
Games should meet the most modern standards.
"You all know, there are also some problems with our neighbors, with
Georgia, so anything that requires more attention from the Ministry of
Foreign Affairs, law enforcement and security agencies, should be done and
an appropriate obstruction placed in the way of any provocations,"
Medvedev said.
.Libya's delegates to League of Arab States resign.
CAIRO, February 26 (Itar-Tass) -- The members of the Libyan delegation
to the League of Arab States have announced their resignation. This
follows from a joint statement by all eleven members of the delegation,
released on Friday.
The diplomats said their decision was due to coercive measures that
the country's leader Muammar Gaddafi was using to suppress popular unrest.
According to the statement, all eleven members of the delegation decided
to join the opposition demanding the immediate resignation of Gaddafi. The
head of Libya's delegation to the Arab League left his post last week.
Earlier, the Arab League decided to suspend the participation of
governmental delegations from Libya in its activities and organizations,
saying that "this measure will remain in force until the authorities in
Tripoli agree to meet the demands of the Libyan people."
.Libya's ambassador to Portugal resigns in protest against Gaddafi
regime.
LISBON, February 26 (Itar-Tass) -- Libya's ambassador to Portugal, Ali
Ibrahim Emdored, on Friday resigned in protest against the "fascist,
tyrannical and unjust" regime of the country's leader Muammar Gaddafi.
In a statement sent to the Portuguese media, the diplomat called on
the Libyan leader to step down immediately. He described Qaddafi's actions
against the protesters as "annihilation of civilian population."
Ali Ibrahim Emdoreda believes that the current events in Libya are a
"crime against humanity."
"The cold-blooded murder of unarmed young people has led to numerous
deaths and a large numbers of casualties throughout the country," he said
in a statement.
Portugal recently evacuated its citizens from Tripoli by two flights
of a military transport aircraft Hercules C-130. In all, 198 people were
evacuated from the capital of Libya by air, 144 of whom were Portuguese,
and others - citizens of other countries working for Portuguese companies.
Lisbon is now trying to evacuate its citizens from Benghazi and other
cities by the sea.
