THAI board resolves to acquire new fleet

BANGKOK, Feb 26 (TNA) - The board of Thai Airways International (THAI), the national flag carrier, has approved a plan to procure a new fleet of 37 airplanes and spare engines, worth some 216 billion baht, from 2011 to 2017.
THAI President Piyasvasti Amranand, said on Saturday (Feb 26) that the procurement complies with the national airline's 2011-2017 strategic plan aimed to improve its flight networks and fleet, as well as to replace its existing aging aircraft and to increase productivity for its corporate growth.
Piyasvasti revealed that the THAI board has also approved another aircraft procurement project from 2018 to 2022--under which the national airline will acquire 38 wide-body aircraft and spare engines worth about 241 billion baht for regional and intercontinental routes--and the recruitment of 468 new flight attendants, 187 stewards and 281 stewardesses comprising 248 Thai stewardesses. The application and recruitment process will begin next month.
According to the THAI president, the national flag carrier generated a total income of 184 billion baht in 2010, a 12.4 per-cent year-on-year increase, with income from its sales and services alone rising by 18.99 billion baht or 11.7 per cent. (TNA)
