Thai government to raise public awareness on ASEAN and SE Asia

BANGKOK, Feb 26 (TNA) - The Thai government through its major media agencies, the Public Relations Department and MCOT Public Company Limited (MCOT), has announced that the Democrat Party-led administration wants to create more awareness among the Thai public on Southeast Asian affairs through news production.
Thai Minister attached to the Prime Minister’s Office Ongart Klampaiboon, who supervises the government's media policy, has acknowledged that an increase in news production on ASEAN and Southeast Asian affairs is part of the Thai government’s national reform initiatives--aimed to raise more awareness among the Thai public on regional issues and people with regularly-updated information.
Under the policy, Public Relation Department Deputy Director Theerapong Sodasri revealed that the state-run NBT Channel, a major new production arm of his department, will introduce a new programme on ASEAN affairs from Mondays to Thursday nights and a five-minute-long news report, call ASEAN Focus, every Friday night.
MCOT President Thanawat Wansom, on the other hand, said that MCOT will expand its news production on the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and other Southeast Asian affairs through its Thai News Agency (TNA)'s various media platforms, ranging from the free TV Modernine TV Channel, its satellite-based ASEAN TV and MCOT 1 Channels, its radio news services on FM 100.5 Mega Hertz News Network and MET 107 FM and its news website [www.mcot.net].
The MCOT top executive noted that, MCOT also plans to link up with other media organizations and news agencies to enhance media connectivity in the region and to elevate the capability of its own news production. (TNA)
