Thai authorities begin compensating villagers affected by Thai-Cambodian border rows

SI SA KET, Feb 26 (TNA) - Authorities from the disaster prevention and mitigation office in Thailand's northeastern Si Sa Ket Province have begun handing out financial assistance to villagers of Ban Bhum Srol locality in the province’s Kantaralak District--who were affected from a spate of crossfire between Thai and Cambodian troops near the Preah Vihear Temple earlier this month and had to relocate to temporary shelters at Kantaralak Municipal Hall.
The grant was distributed to families in Kantaralak’s eight sub-districts at a sum of 1,200 baht each and is expected to reach all the affected households having registered with the authorities by the end of this month; while those not having registered will have their claims assessed for compensation by mid-March.
Meanwhile, the situation along Thai-Cambodian border near the Preah Vihear Temple reportedly remained normal overnight. (TNA)
