Libya's ambassador to Portugal resigns in protest against Gaddafi regime

LISBON, February 26 (Itar-Tass) -- Libya's ambassador to Portugal, Ali Ibrahim Emdored, on Friday resigned in protest against the "fascist,
tyrannical and unjust" regime of the country's leader Muammar Gaddafi.
In a statement sent to the Portuguese media, the diplomat called on
the Libyan leader to step down immediately. He described Qaddafi's actions against the protesters as "annihilation of civilian population."
Ali Ibrahim Emdoreda believes that the current events in Libya are a
"crime against humanity."
"The cold-blooded murder of unarmed young people has led to numerous
deaths and a large numbers of casualties throughout the country," he said in a statement.
Portugal recently evacuated its citizens from Tripoli by two flights
of a military transport aircraft Hercules C-130. In all, 198 people were
evacuated from the capital of Libya by air, 144 of whom were Portuguese,
and others - citizens of other countries working for Portuguese companies.
Lisbon is now trying to evacuate its citizens from Benghazi and other
cities by the sea.
