Thailand sends identity verification team to New Zealand

BANGKOK, Feb 25 (TNA) - A team of identity verification officials from the Royal Thai Police will leave for New Zealand on Saturday to look for six Thai people who have been missing after a strong 6.3 magnitude earthquake rocked the island nation's second largest city of Christchurch on February 22 with rising death toll recorded at 113 so far.
Police Lieutenant General Jaramporn Suramanee, chief of the Royal Thai Police's Office of Forensic Science, will head the Thai team who will bring with them fingerprints and dental records of the six missing Thai people for their identification. The Thai delegation comprises of two DNA experts, one fingerprint comparison officer, one fingerprinting officer, one forensic doctor and one forensic dentist.
Thani Thongphakdi, Director-General of the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs' Department of Information, said on Friday (Feb 25) although the New Zealand government has stopped searches for survivors, Thai authorities will continue searching for the six missing Thai nationals.
Latest reports said that one Thai national was injured, but has already been discharged from a local hospital, and that houses of 10 Thai people were damaged; while four Thai tourists, four Thai residents and 10 other Thai students have expressed their intention to return to Thailand; so, their return is being arranged.
