DSI closely monitors surrogate gangs

BANGKOK, Feb 25 (TNA) - Thai authorities say that they have closely monitored illicit activities related to surrogate and transnational human trafficking gangs--following Thai police's arrest of a Taiwanese suspect earlier this week for allegedly operating a surrogate agency in Thailand and abusing women into forced pregnancy for desolate couples.
Police Colonel Songsak Raksaksakul, Commander of the Foreign Affairs and Transnational Crime Division under Thailand’s Department of Special Investigation (DSI), revealed after questioning the suspect that Thai police investigators have found a number of Thai females were among the surrogate gangs' victims, who were mostly Vietnamese women, and have discovered intermediaries or “middlemen” involved in the illegal business--believed to be part of its wider international network of child bearers for couple who have no babies.
However, the Thai authority noted that Thai police's efforts to expose the unlawful activities have entailed a social problem--in which the abused mothers bearing fetuses of unknown couples are not inclined to assume responsibility in the new-borns, and that Thai authorities concerned are coordinating with the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security and other relevant parties to work out an effective solution.
