UAE wants to produce artillery shells for BMP-3 on its own


ABU-DHABI, February 24 (Itar-Tass) - The United Arab Emirates is
interested in setting up a joint venture in its territory to produce 30-mm
artillery shells for the armored personnel carrier BMP-3, in service in
the Emirates' armed forces, the head of the delegation from the Russian
arms export agency Rosoboronexport at the IDEX 2011 International Defence
Exhibition Conference show, Nikolai Dimidyuk, told reporters on Thursday.
He said, "both countries are interested in setting up a joint venture
in the United Arab Emirates for the production of 30-mm shells for the
BMP-3."
"Our further plans envisage production of 100-mm shells and the sale
of the corresponding technologies to the Emirates for training personnel,"
Dimidyuk added.
Dimidyuk also said His Highness General Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al
Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi had visited the Russian pavilion on the
final day of the show.
"His visit was a good final, and we showed him everything,
particularly, the air defense missile system S-400 and guided artillery
shell Krasnopol-M2," Dimidyuk said.
