TECHNICAL MEETING ON MONGOLIA'S DEVELOPMENT TO RUN
Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia /MONTSAME/ Government and External Partners are to discuss the new Financing Architecture of Mongolia along with Mongolia's development priorities for medium term.
The Eighth Technical Meeting on Mongolia's development is to be held in the Government House March 04, 2011.
The Government of Mongolia, in cooperation with more than 25 external development partners, holds bi-annual regular Technical Meetings that aim to strengthen cooperation between the Government and development partners in support of Mongolia's economic and social priorities.
Mongolia is at a crucial stage of its development. Large mining and infrastructure development projects and key policy issues for the country's social and economic development are being debated and the strategies are in process of formulation. Therefore a main objective of this meeting is for the Government to present its vision for the country's development and encourage a more coordinated support from development partners through an open dialogue.
"At this important stage of Mongolia's development, this technical meeting will provide a good platform for a frank discussion between the Government and its development partners and will help ensure that future foreign assistance is aligned with and supports the development priorities of Mongolia," says S.Bayartsogt, a Minister of Finance of Mongolia, explaining the crucial role of this technical meeting.
At the eighth Technical Meeting, participants will discuss Mongolia's new financing architecture as well as the medium term development priorities that the Government would like to fund. The Government is working with parliament to put together a range of new financing instruments that will benefit the future development of Mongolia. So the Government will share the plans with the Development Partners, hear their views on how other countries have gone through similar experiences, and discuss how they can contribute to this process.
"Thanks to the abundant natural resources that bless this country, there is the potential for people's lives to be transformed for the better. Development partners of Mongolia are keen to work together and understand how they can best support the people of Mongolia through this transformation--be it by providing financial support or by contributing their technical expertise," Coralie Gevers, the WB Country Manager for Mongolia, emphasizes the importance of a collaborative approach and open discussion between the Government and its partners.
In the upcoming meeting, about 150 people that include representatives from the Government, embassies, and all development partners of Mongolia will participate. The meeting will be chaired by the Minister of Finance and co-chaired by the World Bank.
This year, development partners will have the opportunity to participate first in the Mongolia Economic Forum on March 2-3, 2011, and hear voices from all parts of society. This will be an inspiration and source of ideas for the Technical Meeting discussion.
