Thailand closely monitoring impacts of Middle East's political crisis on Thai exports

CAIRO, Feb 24 (TNA) - Thai parties concerned are assessing impacts of ongoing political crisis in the Middle East and the North African region on Thai exports.
Prakit Sivaratanathamrong, Director of Thailand's Office of Commercial Affairs in Cairo, Egypt's capital, said on Thursday (Feb 24) after meeting with Thai exporters who plan to enter into the Middle East that recent political unrest in Egypt has caused great income losses to Thai business operators, but bilateral trade between Thailand and Egypt is expected to recover in the second half of this year.
Prakit admitted, however, that the ongoing political riot in Libya will have some impacts on Thai exports, especially from February to April this year, assessing that Thai exports to Libya should also recover in the second half of this year.
The senior Thai official suggested that Thailand's marketing campaigns in Egypt be adjusted, saying that Thailand will also organize a trade fair in Egypt next month.
Bilateral trade between Thailand and Libya stood over 200 million US dollars last year; while two-way trade between Thailand and Egypt exceeded 760 million US dollars in 2010 and should further grow by 10-20% this year. (TNA)
