All Thais in Libya are safe, says Thai ambassador

LIBYA, Feb 24 (TNA) - Thai Ambassador to Libya Opat Chantarasap confirmed on Thursday (Feb 24) that Thai people had not been harmed in the ongoing political riot in the North African nation.

Opas revealed that the Thai Embassy is about 10 kilometers from Tripoli, Libya's capital, and everyone there had been safe.

According to the top Thai envoy in Libya, anti-government protesters sleep at day, but they rally on streets at night and damage property.

The Thai ambassador acknowledged that he is concerned over robberies although most robbers did not hurt victims and they only took food supplies and valuable items, suggesting that Thai people in Libya stay in groups and group with foreign workers, and that they flee and refrain from any fight in case that they are in the middle of any violent situation.

The top Thai envoy in Libya said, however, if evacuation is possible, the remaining Thai nationals in Libya should do so. (TNA)
