Quake in Laos felt in several areas in Thailand

BANGKOK, Feb 24 (TNA) - Several provinces in Thailand were affected by a moderate earthquake measuring 5.3 on the Richter scale which hit neighbouring Laos late Wednesday night (Feb 23), but there were no reports on any casualty in the affected areas.

Local authorities reported on Thursday that the quake, with its epicenter located in Laos' Saiyaburi Province, was felt in Thailand's Nan, Phrae, Loei, Udon Thani, Nong Khai, Nong Buo Lamphu and Khon Kaen Provinces, particularly in the northern Nan Province, where fractures were found at a main hall of a local ancient temple aged more than 500 years.

The tremor, which took place minutes before midnight, also rocked a local hospital in the northeastern Loei Province for some five seconds, prompting a group of patients and officials to rush out of the hospital's buildings. (TNA)
