Turkey's southern province set to host 2013 Mediterranean Games
MERSIN (A.A) - The 2013 Mediterranean Games will be held in Turkey's southern province of Mersin, voters in an online poll decided on Wednesday.
The games were initially scheduled to be held in Greece's Larissa and Volos cities, but they have been stripped of the hosting rights due to the country's failure to conform to its organizational commitments.
Amar Addadi, head of the games committee, said Mersin outvoted Spain's Tarragone and Libya's Tripoli in the online voting among 21 Mediterranean nations.
The games will be held over ten days from June 24 to July 3. It is expected that more than 3,500 athletes from 24 Mediterranean countries will participate in the event. There will be a total of 260 medal events from 26 different sports.
