MALAYSIAN KING CALLS FOR MUSLIMS TO STRENGTHEN UNITY TO MAINTAIN PEACE
KUALA TERENGGANU (Malaysia), Aug 19 (Bernama) -- Malaysian King Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin on Monday called on all quarters, especially Muslims in the country, to strengthen ties among the people as it is vital for preserving peace and harmony.
Furthermore, the King said, at the international level, Malaysia was known as a peaceful developing country with its multiracial, multireligious andmulticultural people.
"Muslims in the country must increase efforts and determination, and plan strategies to enhance the stature of the religion, race and nation so thatMalaysia would continue to be respected and recognised as a role model.
"Such efforts will also help guide the younger generation to follow the right path in going through life and face the challenges of the 21st century." Tuanku Mizan said this when opening the 50th International Quran Reciters Assembly at the Islamic Civilisation Park's Convention Centre, in Pulau Wan Man,here Monday.
Reciters Abdullah Kapo from Bosnia Herzegovina, Lotfi Ben Ali from Tunisia and Ropiah Salaymal from Vietnam recited the Quranic verses on the openingnight.
