Tajikistan asks Russia to help evacuate its citizens from Libya
DUSHANBE, February 23 (Itar-Tass) -- Tajikistan asks Russia to support
it in evacuation of Tajikistan's citizens from Libya, where mass clashes continue.
Tajikistan on Tuesday forwarded a note via diplomatic channels to
Russia's Foreign Ministry, spokesman of Tajikistan's Foreign Ministry
Davlat Nazriyev said on Wednesday. The country's 21 citizens remain in
Libya, half of them are students of one of Tripoli's Islamic universities.
"All attempts of our Embassy in Moscow to establish contacts with the
Tajiks in Libya failed for the absence of communication," he explained and stressed that the country did not have a diplomatic representation in Tripoli. "Russia is working on possibilities to evacuate its citizens from that country by two ways - by air and by a ferry via Turkey." The country
hopes that Russia's government will provide support in the evacuation.
According to official information, Tajikistan's over 1,500 students remain in several Arab and the Middle East clashes stricken countries.
However, as yet not more than 50 students have expressed the desire to be evacuated. Tajikistan's foreign ministry had warned its all citizens it necessary to observe all precautions and not to leave the places where they stay jointly.
