EU pursuing FTAs with ASEAN member states

BANGKOK, Feb 23 (TNA) - The European Union is aiming to pursue better relations with ASEAN as a whole, in the areas of trade and investment.

In his speech at the Special Lecture Series 2010-2011, hosted by Chulalongkorn University in Bangkok Wedesday, Ambassador Head of Delegation European Union to Thailand, David Lipman said the EU is currently pursuing free trade negotiations with Malaysia, Singapore and also starting opportunities in Vietnam. Agreements provide important shared values and map out how the EU intends to deal with the future together with ASEAN, in a number of global problems.

Regarding Thailand, Ambassador Lipman said the EU hopes it will be able to reach all comprehensive Free Trade Agreements with the kingdom this year. He noted it is important to expedite the talking process, since the EU has become the second largest export market for Thailand, accounting for approximately 13 billion Euros. (TNA)
