Germany's President thanks Turkish President Gul for his help with release of German journalists from Iran
ANKARA (A.A) - 22.02.2011 - German President Christian Wulff has sent a letter to Turkish President Abdullah Gul to thank him for his help with release of two German journalists from Iran.
At his recent visit to Iran between February 13 and 16, Gul had talked to Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad for the release of Marcus Hellwig and Jens Koch, who work for the German weekly newspaper Bild am Sonntag.
The two journalists were arrested four months ago in Iran for interviewing the son of Sakineh Mohammadi Ashtiani, the woman who was sentenced to death by stoning for adultery.
Iran freed German journalists shortly after Gul's visit to Tehran.
In his letter to Gul, German President Wulff said, "you have extended a great help to Germany by saving two German journalists. I am ready to help Turkey if you need help one day. I am grateful to you for your help and friendship."
Ashtiani's death sentence was suspended earlier this month after a global outcry.
