Luxembourg to open embassy in Turkey

ANKARA (A.A) - 22.02.2011 - Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu has said that Luxembourg decided to open an embassy in Turkey.
Holding a joint press conference with Luxembourg's Deputy Premier & Foreign Minister Jean Asselborn in Ankara on Tuesday, Davutoglu said that high-level visits would be paid between Turkey and Luxembourg in coming months, adding that Luxembourg would open an embassy in Turkey.
We have discussed the relations between the two countries as well as development of the commerce during our meeting, said Davutoglu.
Noting that Turkey-EU relations and the incidents in Middle East were also agenda items of their meeting, Davutoglu said that Asselborn would visit several Middle East countries after he completed his talks in Turkey.
In his part, Asselborn expressed belief that the EU would be stronger with Turkey's membership.
Noting that the EU could play a more important role in global scale with Turkey's membership, Asselborn said that when current transformation of Arab countries was considered, Turkey could be a reference country for them in this process.
Stressing that Turkey fulfilled many important reforms in the past 7-8 years, Asselborn said that the accession process was a very important process both for Turkey and the EU.
Asselborn said that Turkey displayed a better performance than EU countries in economic aspect in recent years, adding that Luxembourg was finance center of Europe, and thanks to the embassy they would open in Turkey, the cooperation and friendship between the two countries would further develop.
