Azerbaijan to study situation with suicides
Baku (Trend) - Azerbaijan will carry out a research to clarify the situation with the suicide, Chief Psychiatrist of the Republic and Azerbaijani Medical University’s Psychiatry Department Head Geray Geraybeyli told Trend.
He said following the research results suicidal situation in the regions will become clear.
Reasons for suicides of healthy and mentally ill people will be studied. The studies will also be linked to suicide epidemiology in Baku.
Geraybeyli expressed regret over the fact that Azerbaijan has not previously conducted epidemiological studiesAzerbaijan to study situation with suicides (PHOTO) (VIDEO). According to him, such a study first will be held in Baku.
"It is impossible to keep accurate statistics of suicide. Not every suicide recorded. Sometimes family, relatives hide these things and sometimes suicide does not lead to fatalities. If we're talking about doing real statistics, one must take into account the factors listed by me. It is difficult to say in what region of Azerbaijan largest number of suicides. Research is needed for this. There must be a survey among the population, the survey results should be analyzed, and only then we can say anything concrete, " Geraybeyli said.
According to him, the University’s Psychiatry Department studies suicide attempts of mentally ill people.
"An opinion formed in Soviet times that self-murderer is a hundred percent mentally ill one. But, individual approach is required in this matter,” Geraybeyli said.
