PRIME MINISTER GETS AU FAIT WITH MOUNT OWEN COAL MINE
Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, /MONTSAME/ The Prime Minister of Mongolia S.Batbold has got au fait with activities of the Mount Owen coal mine of the “Xtrata” mining group in frames of his official visit to Australia.
The Premier has underlined that the mining sector in Mongolia has to have criteria of the mining responsibility during meeting with the “Xtrata” mining group. “I know that Australia one of the strongest countries in the world at mining development. There are a lot of leading companies such as the Rio Tinto. Among them, the coal mine of Xtrata has many features. I heard this mine's technologies are very similar to the technologies of Mongolia's Tavan tolgoi. So, we are interesting in successful operation of the infrastructure of coal mine, organization, marketing and management,” the Premier said, and added Mongolia wants to study experiences of extracting a large amount of coal from small areas.
The “Xtrata” mining group has gained great achievements in introducing and operating environment-friendly techniques and technologies. Thus, the Mount Owen coal mine has managed to become one of the mines in Australia, which satisfied all standards and norms for environment and safety. This mine extracts 15 million tons coal a year, and exports it to East Asian countries.
