Thai FM leaves for Jakarta for ASEAN foreign ministers' meeting

BANGKOK, Feb 21 (TNA) - Thai Foreign Minister Kasit Piromya is paying a visit to Indonesia to attend an informal ASEAN foreign ministers' meeting--set to be held in Jakarta on February 22.
Accompanied by his entourage, including his secretary, Chavanont Intarakomalsut, and Thai Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs Thirakul Niyom, Kasit left for the Indonesian capital, via a Singapore Airlines flight, on Monday afternoon (Feb 21).
The informal ASEAN foreign ministers' meeting was set to kick off Tuesday afternoon following a luncheon. Indonesian Foreign Minister Dr. Marty M. Natalegawa, in his capacity as the authority of Indonesia, the current chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), will then hold a press conference after the meeting to report results of the regional informal gathering--which is specially organised to discuss ongoing border rows between Thailand and Cambodia in the wake of a recent UN Security Council resolution recommending both sides to hold talks to resolve their unsettled border issues.
The Thai foreign minister is scheduled to return to Bangkok on February 23. ASEAN now groups Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. (TNA)
