HE Premier Receives UN Official
Doha, February 20 (QNA) - HE Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamad bin Jassim bin Jabor Al-Thani received here on Sunday UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Valerie Amos and her accompanying delegation.
During the meeting, they discussed ways of enhancing the cooperation between the State of Qatar and the international organization and coordinating the current humanitarian issues in the world in addition to the disaster response.
They also discussed the "Hope For" initiative, launched by HE the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister last year to improve the effective use of military and civil defence assets in relief operations.
Valerie Amos in this regard, noted to Qatar's significant contributions in supporting humanitarian action and dealing with natural disasters in various parts of the world.
For his part, HE the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister expressed thanks and appreciation to Valerie Amos for the role of UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs in supporting the "Hope For" initiative, stressing Qatar's aspiration to continue the close cooperation with the office in particular and the UN in general to activate this initiative.
