Turkey to promote Cappadocia in German tourism fair
NEVSEHIR (A.A) - 20.02.2011 - Turkey will promote Cappadocia region in the ITB International Tourism Bourse in Berlin, Germany in March, local tourism association said on Sunday.
Nazif Demir, the secretary general of Cappadocia Touristic Facilities Association, said the central Anatolian province of Nevsehir and Cappadocia region would open a stand in the 45th ITB Berlin Tourism Fair to take place between March 8 and 13.
"Around 150 countries will attend the fair," Demir told AA correspondent.
With more than 180,000 visitors, among these 108,000 trade visitors, and over 10,000 exhibitors from 180 countries, ITB Berlin is the leading B2B-Platform of all tourism industry offers.
Cappadocia is the common name of the field covered by the provinces of Aksaray, Nevsehir, Nigde, Kayseri and Kirsehir in the Central Anatolian region.
Volcanic eruptions occurred in Erciyes, Hasandag and Gulludag in the upper Myosen period. A large tableland was formed from the volcanic tufas together with the erosion of the Kizilirmak river and wind over ten thousands of years, resulting in chimney rocks (Fairy Chimneys) which are considered a wonder of the nature.
Cappadocia was one of the most important places in the spreading periods of the Christian religion. The first christians trying to escape from the Roman soldiers who wanted to avoid the spreading of the Christian religion have settled in the region of Cappadocia which was so suitable for hiding and so they were able to continue their natures and to spread their religions.
