The five-day equestrian festival at the New Rayyan track is being hosted under the patronage of HH Sheikh Abdullah bin Khalifa Al Thani.
This festival is one of its kind in the Middle East and this edition will showcase top horses, international races and Fegentri World Championship races for women and men to be stage February 23 and 24. Around 130 horses will be seen in action in the prize money is QR 1.3 Million event.
The QR 300,000 worth Gulf Cup for GCC Pure Arabian will see Qatar's best horses as well as from abroad on February 23. This event will be followed by Qatar International Cup and Qatar International Trophy the following day which will bring down the curtains on the QIEF.
Qatar International Cup is open to Thoroughbreds and Qatar International Trophy will see Pure Arabians. Both races are worth of QR 500,000 each.
These three races are of high quality and are likely to be thrilling affairs. Best horses, jockeys and trainers have already prepared for these three big races and one can witness interesting contests.
REC's General Manager Sami Jassim Al Boenain said the competition would be very interesting. "We have horses from France, Oman and Saudi Arabia taking part in the festival. Qatar has already proved that it is the best when it comes to Pure Arabians but now we also have Group I Thoroughbreds racing here. Joshua Tree, Beethoven and Miss Starlight will make Qatar International Trophy, a very interesting contest. This sends a strong message about Qatar ready to take on the best in the international arena when it comes to Thoroughbred racing."
We have been organising this festival for the past 20 years and we take pride that it is first and still the best Equestrian Festival held in the Middle East. Top quality horses take part in the Pure Bred Arabian Horse Show and the owners are keen to win here as this is a very prestigious event, Boenain added.
This year spectators at the REC will not only be able to enjoy racing they will also be treated to the rich history of Qatar at the Heritage Village.
A Heritage Village will be set up in the REC premises. This time, REC will bring in some wild animals so that the visitors have a close look at them. Ostrich, Gazelles and camels will be at the REC to add glitter to the festival.
