Dutch ambassador to Iran returns to duty
TEHRAN, Feb.20 (MNA) -- The Dutch ambassador to Iran is returning to Tehran, less than two weeks after being recalled following the execution of Dutch Iranian woman Zahra Bahrami.
“We have given a clear signal,” Foreign Minister Uri Rosenthal said. “I have discussed the next steps with the ambassador. It is now time for him to go back to his post and to resume his work for the Dutch and Dutch interests in Iran.”
The Netherlands summoned its ambassador to Tehran following the execution of Iranian-Dutch citizen Zahra Bahrami.
Bahrami, who was sentenced to death for dealing in drugs, was hanged on January 29, 2011. Bahrami was born in Iran, but gained Dutch citizenship after moving to the Netherlands.
Bahrami had smuggled cocaine into Iran with the help of a Dutch partner.
During a search of her house, 450 grams of cocaine and 420 grams of opium were discovered and, following further investigations, it was found that she had also distributed 150 grams of cocaine.
