Thailand to further promote trade and investment cooperation with Russia

MOSCOW, Feb 20 (TNA) - The Thai embassy in Russia has sought to further promote and materialise investment from Thailand in the Moscow Region.

Hosting a working luncheon for high-ranking officials of the Moscow Region recently, Thai Ambassador to Russia Chalermpol Thanchitt reiterated the importance of further promoting the trade and investment cooperation between Thailand and Russia, especially in the area of food manufacturing and agro-industry, which would bring mutual benefits to the two sides, adding the Thai Government has maintained its full support for both inward and outward investments.

The Ambassador disclosed that in the near future, the delegation from a prominent Thai conglomerate manufacturing alcoholic beverages would visit Russia and the Moscow Region to explore trade and investment possibilities.

In this regard, the Russian External Economic Relations Minister Tigran Karakhanov informed the Thai side that the Moscow Region welcomes the potential investment from Thailand in all possible areas, and the Thai investment by CPF in pig farms in Moscow Region has been regarded and prioritised as a national project of the Moscow Region and received full support priority from the Federal Government of Russia.

Last year, the Moscow Region, enjoyed a 37 per cent increase in foreign direct investment (FDI), reflecting the confidence of foreign investors toward the Region’s resources and management.

Investment and trade cooperation in food and agriculture between Thailand and the Russian Federation is crucial, as Russia currently cannot produce enough food products and has to import up to 70 per cent from abroad. (TNA)
