Hurdler Pearson 'strong, fit and ready'

Olympic hurdling silver medallist Sally Pearson has declared herself "strong, fit and ready to go" ahead of the Briggs Athletics Classic in Hobart on Sunday.
Pearson, who claimed silver in the 100 metre hurdles in Beijing, and gold at the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi last year, is competing in the 100 and 200 metre sprint events during the Australian season, before switching to the hurdles in winter.
She said she was pleased with her start to the season having won the sprint double on the first event of the revised domestic calendar in Brisbane last week.
"It's been the best preparation of my senior career to date, so I'm really happy," she said.
"I'm sort of staying in the moment and going with that and not looking too forward ahead and just keeping myself injury free.
"I'm strong, fit and I'm ready to go.
"I think this year's going to be different from other years and I think I could come out on top."
Pearson said training with New Zealand's Andrea Miller had kept her sharp over the off-season.
"It's been fantastic to have someone on the same track as you who has the same goals as you - getting to the World Championships," she said.
"It's nice to have this journey with her.
The 24-year-old Pearson will be out to break the 23-second barrier for the first time in her career in the 200m, with a personal best of 23.02.
Also competing in Hobart on Sunday is dual shot put world champion Reese Hoffa, a flamboyant American who can solve a Rubik's cube in less than a minute.
Australian athletes have just five events to qualify for the national team ahead of the World Championships at Daegu, South Korea in August.
