Hanoi (VNA) -- Vietnam expects to exceed its target of exporting 87,000
workers this year, Department of Overseas Labour deputy head Dao Cong Hai said.

Since December last year, labour export agencies had reported that many foreign
markets welcomed Vietnamese workers with preferential policies, said Hai, whose
department comes under the Ministry of Labour, War Invalids and Social Affairs.


For instance, Taiwan planned to receive 28,000 workers; Malaysia , 11,000; the
Republic of Korea (RoK), 8,000; and Japan , 6,000.

"In the RoK, Vietnamese workers are highly appreciated and make up 40 percent of
guest workers there," he said.

By the end of last month, about 5,000 Vietnamese workers had been chosen by the
Republic of Korea (RoK) employers and earned an income of 17 million VND (850 USD)
a month each. More than 1,600 workers have completed their procedures for
departure.

This year, the RoK has given high priority to workers in the manufacturing,
maritime and construction sectors, so female workers make up only 10 percent, Hai
said.

The labour market for female workers is Taiwan and Malaysia , he said, where
nearly 60 percent of guest female workers work as assistants in families and more
than 40 percent work in the manufacturing sector.

Meanwhile, the Vietnamese Overseas Labour Department announced it will set up a
vocational centre for guest workers in Thanh Hoa central province, funded by the
United Arab Emirates and capable of training 500 people hoping to work overseas.


Last year, a total of 85,000 Vietnamese workers went abroad to work./.
