Buddhist Thais perform merit making, giving alms on Makha Pucha Day

BANGKOK, Feb 18 (TNA) - Observing Makha Pucha day on Friday (Feb 18), Thai Buddhists in provinces around the country flocked to make merit and give alms.

In Buriram province, locals offered food to monks and novices in Pra Aram Luang Temple, and listened to Buddhist sermons, while praying for peace in the Thai-Cambodian border situation.

Meanwhile in Trang, more than one thousand villagers continued with the tradition of making Bucha Fai snacks to give thanks to the existence of fire. People also gathered to give alms to monks in front of the King Rama the Fifth statue. Locals were also meditating at other temples such as Pra Tan Sila-Art Temple.

In Yala, the provincial governor and the Region Four Commander joined with Buddhists to give alms, listen to Dharma, and meditate amid tight security.

In Bangkok’s Huay Kwang district, the district office and the Culture Council Association of Thailand organized morning merit activities at Param Nine Temple. (TNA)
