Buddhist Thais observe Makha Pucha Day

BANGKOK, Feb 18 (TNA) - Buddhist Thais across the country have begun observing the Makha Pucha Day this year, which falls on February 18, as they were crowding local temples for merit makings to commemorate the day when 1,250 Buddhist monks who were all ordained by the Lord Buddha himself gathered at a temple without any appointment for a sermon offered by the Lord Buddha.
In Bangkok, Vice Minister for Culture Fight Lieutenant Suriya Suksakit presided over an alms giving ceremony for 99 Buddhist monks in front of Amarin Plaza shopping complex in the heart of Bangkok Friday morning (Feb 18), at which people also donated books for flood-ridden schools in Thailand's northeastern Ubon Ratchathani Province in honour of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej’s 84th birthday.
In Thailand’s northeastern Si Sa Ket Province, local authorities have enshrined the Buddha’s relics conveyed from nine countries at Maha Phuttharam Temple for public worships. Similar religious activities were also organised in nearby Uttaradit Province. (TNA)
