TISI edges up in January 2011

BANGKOK, Feb 18 (TNA) - The Federation of Thai Industries (FTI) has reported that the Thai Industries Sentiment Index (TISI) edged up to 112.7 points in January 2011, from 109.7 points in December 2010, its continued increase for the third consecutive month.

FTI Chairman Payungsak Chartsutthiphol, said that factors which boosted TISI last month included rising domestic demand and people's higher purchasing power, thanks to increasing prices of local farm products, especially rubber, as well as the government's policy on freezing the diesel price on the domestic market at 30 baht per liter and the depreciation of the Thai baht--which have benefited Thai exports and tourism.

TISI which exceeds 100 points indicates that local industrialists have sound confidence in the Thai economy, spurring overall sales, production and operational costs in the country consequently.

Meanwhile, Surapong Paisitpattanapong, Spokesman of FTI’s automobile club, said that Thailand's total sale of automobiles reached 68,398 units last month, a 38 per cent year-on-year increase; while the country's total auto production stood at 146,234 units, a 40.81 per cent year-on-year surge. The spokesman reported that Thailand's total automobile export in January 2011 rose to 68,046 units, a 16.27 per cent year-on-year growth. (TNA)
