Russia, Cyprus pledge to cooperate in controlling financial flows
NICOSIA, February 17 (Itar-Tass) -- Russia and Cyprus have agreed to
cooperate closely in controlling financial flows between the two countries
and fighting corruption.
The agreement was reached during the just-concluded visit to Cyprus by
a delegation of the Russian Audit Chamber, led by its Chairman Sergei
Stepashin.
Stepashin had talks with Cyprus' Auditor General Christalla Yiorkatzi.
They noted good contacts between their organisations. At the same time,
they decided to draft proposals on how to interact even closer in
controlling cash flows and fighting corruption.
Stepashin was received by President Dimitris Christofias who assessed
relations between the two countries as "excellent".
He asked Stepashin to convey to the Russian leadership and President
Dmitry Medvedev personally his gratitude for the firm and invariable
support to the people of Cyprus in its struggle for a lasting and viable
settlement.
Christofias confirmed his country's commitment to further cooperation
with Russia in all areas, including in the implementation of the
agreements that were reached during Medvedev's official visit to Cyprus in
October 2010.
