KHAN BANK FOUNDATION TO COOPERATE IN ANTI-CANCER CAMPAIGN

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, /MONTSAME/ The Khan Bank Foundation has signed a cooperation agreement with the National Cancer Center (NCC) and the Mongolian National Broadcaster (MNB) to implement a national campaign against cancer. A ceremony to launch the national campaign took place at the NCC during the event to celebrate World Cancer Day in which journalists specialized in health issues received updated information on cancer in Mongolia and were screened themselves.
The Mongolian campaign is part of the 2011 international campaign announced under the slogan “We are stronger together” by the Union for International Cancer Control. Like in other countries throughout the world, cases of cancer have increased within the last ten years, and cancer has become the second cause of death after cardiovascular diseases in Mongolia. It is thus important to take preventive measures against cancer such as conducting screening among high risk groups, early diagnosis and increasing public awareness of cancer causing infections. Therefore, the campaign is significant for its plan to conduct comprehensive activities across the country.
In frames of the campaign, some measures are to be taken for free comprehensive medical check-ups for an estimated 15,000 people from high risk groups, and for training for rural doctors and health professionals on early detection and diagnosis of cancer. Moreover, the NCCI doctors will conduct surgery in some aimags, if necessary; and information on cancer causes will be provided to the general public and high risk groups.
It is expected that the national campaign will turn many innovative ideas into actual work.
