RF's military activities in Far East growing - Japan's Defence Min.
TOKYO, February 15 (Itar-Tass) -- Japan's Defence Minister Toshimi
Kitazawa confirms that Russia develops its military activities in the
region.
"Russia's military activity has a permanent tendency for growth," he
told a news conference in Tokyo, which followed the governmental meeting
on Tuesday. "This is to be followed up thoroughly."
The minister paid special interest to the information that Russia's
Pacific Fleet will get two Mistral type ships.
"This plan is not implemented as yet," he said. "But we are going to
follow up with great interest how the events will develop."
Earlier in February, Russia's President Dmitry Medvedev ordered to
supply new armoury to the military contingent located on South Kuril
Islands. A source in Russia's Defence Ministry told Itar-Tass in Moscow
that the government planned to allocate big amounts of money to improve
the infrastructures of the 18th machinegun-artillery division located
there.
