Youth Need Skills To Cope With A Fast Changing World

BANGI (Bernama) -- The youth in this country need to have the skills that can empower them to continue to be competitive in a fast changing world, said Rosmah Mansor.

As such, the prime minister's wife said they should strive to equip
themselves with the necessary skills and not adopt a lackadaisical attitude.

"Indeed, if a task is approached with full dedication and high commitment, the youth undertaking it will become more skilled in his work.

"The results obtained will be of high value and quality and also held in high regard by society," she said when closing a youth camp at local Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) here Monday.

Rosmah said history had also shown that youths not only became useful in the future but also had the potential to play a meaningful role while they were still young.

Also present were UKM vice chancellor Prof Dr Sharifah Hapsah Syed Hasan Shahabudin and Federal Land Development Authority (Felda) director-general Dzulkifli Abdul Wahab.

The camp, the second in a series focusing on youths from Felda schemes, saw 29 youths from Felda settlements in Johor, Kedah and Kelantan participating in it.

On the camp, Rosmah said it provided an opportunity to develop youths from Felda settlements so that they could act as role models for rural youths.

"What we want is youths who are consistently competitive, creative and innovative in all matters.

"I am fully confident that this camp series will help Felda tackle social problems and produce a new generation of Felda youths who are even more productive," she said.

She added that studies undertaken by UKM's Youth Empowerment Centre
indicated youths should not be left to their own devices and instead, their time must be filled with activities that led to their positive development.
