Nine suspects arrested for involving in car bomb in Yala

YALA, Feb 14 (TNA) - Security officers in Yala Province have arrested nine people suspected of being involved in a car bomb attack in the center of the southernmost Thai province on Sunday (Feb 13)--injuring 18 people, including both soldiers and civilians, and triggering a fire which destroyed over 10 shop houses.
The 300-member local security force, comprising both soldiers and police, captured the nine suspects, including two religious teachers of a local Islamic school, six teenagers and a youth, during their three-hour search of over 10 suspicious locations in Lidol and Yala Sub-districts on Monday (Feb 14) after learning about movements of an insurgent group led by Ahmad Tue-nga. The nine suspects were brought to the 11th Ad Hoc Yala Unit for questioning, recording of their profiles and conducting a DNA test. If proven innocent by the authorities, they will then be released.
Meanwhile, Thai Deputy Interior Minister Thaworn Senneam visited the three soldiers and six civilians injured in the car bomb attack, promising that security measures will be beefed up, including setting up more checkpoints; while Thai Deputy Prime Minister Suthep Thaugsuban, who oversees national security, said that the car bomb explosion appeared to be a retaliation against intensified measures of local authorities, and that intelligence and operations of local security forces need to be further improved.
