Active flower trade on St. Valentine's Day

BANGKOK, Feb 14 (TNA) - As in previous years, flower trade in most areas across Thailand has been active, boosted by St. Valentine's Day which falls on February 14, with red roses being the most popular as usual.

In Bangkok, shoppers have crowded Pak Klong Talad, the largest flower market in the capital, since Sunday (Feb 13) to buy Valentines' Day roses. Professional floral arrangement services have also been in great demand.

Local flower sellers said that sales of various kinds of flowers, especially roses, are more active this year than last year, as customers appear to have more purchasing power.

Prices of roses have increased due to the higher demand and there have been more orders than last year. But several flower sellers have set their retail prices similar to last year--with 50 red roses in one bunch sold at 200-300 baht each; while pink roses sold at about 150 baht a bunch. Artificial roses made from cloth or soap are averagely sold at around 30 baht each. (TNA)
